Zalando continues to expand in Mönchengladbach/Jüchen
The German online retailer Zalando is expanding its logistics space at Regiopark Mönchengladbach by 56,000 square meters, thereby creating Europe's largest center for electronic commerce.
With a total area of 134,000 square meters the location in Güdderath is also significantly larger than the Zalando site in Erfurt. With the purchase of the neighboring optional space this November the construction project has also reached a further milestone: For the first time, Regiopark is extending into the neighboring municipality of Jüchen. Following the signing of the contract for the extension building in the middle of November, Mönchengladbach's mayor Norbert Bude and Jüchen's mayor Harald Zillikens emphasized that the coordination process between the municipalities had gone smoothly.
In August, Zalando commenced test operations in two of the three first hall sections at Regiopark, creating approx. 300 jobs. The company plans to employ up 1,000 people at this location in the long term. The additional expansion now agreed provides considerable further potential. 41,000 square meters of floor area, 9,000 square meters of intermediate story space and 6,000 square meters of office and staff rooms are to be completed by 2015.
